Bumper entry for truck title fight at Snetterton this weekend!

Tuesday, September 09 2014

The British Truck Racing Championship title battle is set to heat up this weekend (13/14 September) as the contenders head to Snetterton, with just one point separating the leading two in the top category.

Mat Summerfield has claimed the last two championships in his blue MAN, and consistent finishes have given him the Division One title lead ahead of the Norfolk circuit's five races. With two rounds to go after Snetterton, the challenge is headed by series returnee Christopher Levett, whose ex-works Renault has often been the class of the field.

Steve Thomas's MAN holds third place in Division One, just 23 points away from the lead, and with a total of 50 points on offer, a successful weekend at Snetterton could place him in the thick of the fight.

Just over 50 points behind the leaders are former champions Stuart Oliver and David Jenkins. Multiple titlist Oliver returned last year and will be in the hunt with his Scania, whilst crowd favourite Jenkins will certainly be spectacular as he aims to build on his sole 2014 win at the previous Donington round.

An equally close title battle is being fought in Division Two, where 2013 Rookie of the Year Simon Reid (Iveco) holds a six point advantage over newcomer Ryan Smith (Sisu). Former champions and siblings Steve and Graham Powell are also within sight of the leaders and are expected to be in the hunt for wins at Snetterton.

A reverse-grid system means that the Division Two trucks will lead the field with a head start over the Division One machinery. This format ensures that the five races are shared between several winners, adding unpredictability to the title battle.

A total of 16 trucks will take part in this weekend's five races, with three taking place on Sunday. Support action includes NASCAR-style Pickup Trucks, pocket-rocket Legends, slipstreaming Caterhams and breathtakingly fast Superkarts. On Sunday fans can also enjoy a Wildcat Aerobatic display, take part in Monster Truck rides and a free grid walk and autograph session with the truck racers.
