BTCC Snetterton Race 1: Jake Hill takes first win of the year

26 May 2024

Jake Hill took his first victory of the season in the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship at Snetterton this morning (Sunday) for Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport with a dominant drive on a greasy track.

Series returnee Bobby Thompson took second place in his first race back for Zeus Cloud Racing with WSR with Ashley Sutton continuing his 100% podium record in third.

With an excellent start, Hill was able to get his BMW 330e M Sport into the first corner unchallenged from reigning champion Sutton and never looked back. He held his rivals at arm’s length for the entire contest before taking a serene victory in the first dry running of the weekend.

Sutton, in the NAPA Racing UK Ford Focus ST, struggled to stay with Hill and got embroiled in battle with Thompson, who had vaulted to third at the start. On lap six, Thompson slipped past into Riches and earned his fourth podium in the BTCC in his first race back.

Sutton’s teammate Dan Cammish finished fourth after fighting past Adam Morgan with Andrew Watson driving solidly to fifth. Morgan eventually dropped back to seventh, behind championship contender Tom Ingram.

Ingram started the race in 13th for Team BRISTOL STREET MOTORS and was ninth at the end of the first lap. On the fourth lap, he caught up with Colin Turkington and hustled past before continuing up the order. Turkington finished in eighth, one place higher than he started. Rob Huff and Daniel Rowbottom rounded out the top ten.

The second BTCC race at Snetterton is due to begin at 14.25.
