Fred Green stormed to his fifth GB4 Championship pole position of the year after a gripping battle for honours in qualifying at Snetterton.

The Elite Motorsport driver set a 1m47.479 inside the final five minutes to beat championship leader Alex O'Grady to race one pole by 0.075s, but race two pole, based on each driver's second quickest times, went the way of the Irishman.

Both Green and O'Grady enjoyed turns at the top of the leaderboard, but early on it looked as if Douglas Motorsport's Dayton Coulthard was on course for a maiden pole, as he recorded three laps inside the 1m48s bracket to take a grip at the top of the times. 

O'Grady was the first to knock the Scotsman off the top with six minutes remaining, courtesy of a 1m47.841s lap, but Green went a tenth of a second better a minute later to take over the position himself.

That didn't last for long as O'Grady put himself back into provisional pole with a 1m47.572s, only for Green to take the position for good with three minutes to go. 

O'Grady had to settle for second, and was 0.217s quicker than Fortec's Thomas Ingram Hill, who had been inside the top two throughout testing and claimed another top-three qualifying result, a quarter of a second ahead of long-time session leader Coulthard, who still delivered one of his best GB4 qualifying performances. Ingram Hill though, has a five place grid penalty to carry over from Silverstone. 

The Scotsman was just 0.058s ahead of Irish teammate Conor Grant, who equalled his top qualifying result, with Pace Performance's Torrin Byrne 0.040s behind, and also equalling his best qualifying. 

Hillspeed's Enzo Hallman took seventh, less than a tenth of a second further back, and 0.103s clear of Elite's Emmilio Valentino Del Grosso. Hallman is another that will serve a five place grid penalty from the previous round. 

Fortec's rookie Franciszek Cegielski and Pace Performance's John O'Donnell completed the top-10, which was covered by 0.893s.

For the race two grid, O'Grady's second best time of 1m47.572s was just 0.018s away from his quickest effort, with that consistency helping him to a second pole of the year. 

Green's next best tour was a quarter of a second away from his session topper, putting him second for race two with Ingram Hill, Coulthard and Grant third, fourth and fifth once more.

Hallman moved up to sixth ahead of Byrne, with Del Grosso, O'Donnell and Hillspeed's Connor Willis completing the top-10.

The first race of the weekend is due to commence at 14.55, with live streaming set to begin at 14.35 BST.
