Michael Igoe and Will Atkins secured another victory in the Protyre Circuit Rally Championship after edging out John Griffiths and Emma Morrison in an exciting Snetterton Stage Rally on Saturday (7 February).
The Citroen C3 Rally2 pair didn’t finish outside of the top three in any of the day’s six stages, but it was the Skoda Fabia of Griffiths and Morrison which started strongest. The pair took stage victories in the first, third, fourth and fifth stages, only losing out to Igoe and Atkins in the final stage by just two seconds.
Victories in stages two and six would prove vital for Igoe/Watkins, along with the pair’s typical consistency across the day’s action. With the top two cars split by the smallest of margins, it was the VW Polo R5 of Hugh Brunton and Kerrie Macgillivary that rounded out the podium, just over a minute behind.
The VW Polo of John Stone and Laura Marshall was fourth, a further 24 seconds behind, with the Mitsubishi Evo X of Alfie Threlfall and Edward East close behind in fifth, claiming a class victory as well.
