Elite Motorsport's Jesse Phillips has been crowned as the inaugural GB4 Winter Series champion.
The British driver secured the title on Sunday afternoon, after winning the dramatic final contest of the four-race series, while rivals Harrison Mackie and George Proudford-Nalder hit trouble.
Phillips ran third early on but when the main title protagonists ahead of him collided at Agostini mid-race, Phillips pounced to move into the lead, a position he'd never relinquish.
Proudford-Nalder fell as low as sixth, but fought back to third after a hugely dramatic final lap that included another collision with Mackie. The result was initially good enough to give him the title, but he was found at fault for causing the last lap collision and the resulting post-race penalty dropped him to fourth in the final result, handing Phillips the crown by just a single point.
Phillips won two races this weekend, with his first win coming in the wet race two, before the ultimately decisive triumph in race four. He opened his weekend with third place in race one, and took eighth in round three earlier on Sunday.
"The main focus this weekend was to extract the most we could and learn as much as we could going into next year" he said. "The two wins were a great result, and the championship now is a bonus!"
"It's a great feeling to win the title. It's a big accomplishment to have and add to my career. We'll definitely keep looking back at this when I go further into my career.
"The race was a bit chaotic, but I think I maximised it from my side. There are definitely some bits I can work on for next year, but coming away with the win was the best we could have done.
"We got a bit lucky with the two in front coming together and giving us the lead. Once we were in the lead, we got into a good rhythm and managed to drive off."
