James Hedley, who is yet to secure his place on this year's GB3 grid, did his chances no harm at all by setting the fastest time of this week's Snetterton pre-season test during the final session of the two days this afternoon (Wednesday).
The British driver lapped the Norfolk venue with a time of 1m42.893s for Arden VRD, over seven tenths of a second clear of his nearest rival, Fortec's Max Esterson.
While Hedley enjoyed an unusually large advantage at the head of the field, behind him it was as close as ever, with the next five drivers covered by less than a tenth of a second.
Esterson in second was 0.018s ahead of Elite Motorsport's McKenzy Cresswell, who in turn was 0.061s clear of JHR Developments' David Morales.
Morales teammate Matthew Rees was next up and the only driver inside the top-19 to record their best time outside of session four. His best time came in the second session, having also topped session one, and put the Welshman 0.005s behind Morales and a scant thousandth of a second ahead of Hitech Pulse-Eight's Souta Arao.
The Japanese driver's Irish teammate Alex Dunne was seventh quickest, 0.023s ahead of Rodin Carlin's John Bennett, with his teammate Callum Voisin ninth today, having topped the times in wet conditions yesterday.
Arden VRD's Nico Christodoulou completed the top-10, which was covered by 1.1 seconds.
In all, 20 drivers participated in today's test, with drivers from Fortec, Elite and JHR arriving overnight having tested at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium yesterday.
Testing resumes at Oulton Park next Tuesday.
